Kelowna is set to host the British Columbia Summer Games, with the opening day slated for mid-summer. Organizers expect more than a few thousand athletes to take part across multiple venues.

The main hub for the opening stretch will be the area around Ellison Lake, where the first wave of contests will be staged. Day one at the lake focuses on paddling disciplines, including kayaking and canoeing races on the water.

Hazy conditions from nearby wildfires have already pushed some early contests back, leaving schedulers to reshuffle a few slots. Lacrosse squads are among the groups still slated to compete, with matches expected in the days that follow.

Local athletes from Powell River have put together teams for the games, adding a hometown presence to the roster. Daily coverage will feature photos from the opening ceremonies along with competition highlights from across the schedule.
