Tadej Pogačar took the Stage 19 on July 24. The Slovenian rider struck hard on Alpe d'Huez and ended up far ahead. Only Richard Carapaz managed to get close. Pogačar's group had sick teammates earlier in the stage but he remained fit. His lead grew bigger on the last climbs. Two days prior, Carapaz secured Stage 18 just close behind.
