Game Recap

All good things must come to an end, though the Canadiens likely expected a more memorable finish than Tuesday night’s game. Facing the chance for a five-game winning streak, les Habitants delivered what many called their worst effort of the season, allowing three goals to the Philadelphia Flyers in the first period.

The game was meant to rebuild Samuel Montembeault’s form and confidence. However, the goalie from Becancour conceded three goals in the first six shots he faced.

“Montembeault stopped 35 of the next 36, including some ten-bellers that gave his team the chance to wrest and hold momentum for much of the rest of the game.”

Lane Hutson and Ivan Demidov stepped up, supported by Juraj Slafkovský, Cole Caufield, Nick Suzuki, and Kirby Dach. Montreal eventually led going into the final period.

Unfortunately, their slow start left no room for error. A single unlucky moment allowed Nikita Grebenkin to tie the game with his first NHL goal. The Flyers then claimed the extra point in the shootout.

Author’s summary: The Canadiens struggled early but showed resilience before ultimately succumbing in overtime due to a costly mistake and a first NHL goal by Grebenkin.
