Traumfabrik Babelsberg is increasing its commitment to international filmmaking, developing a diverse slate of globally appealing productions, including its inaugural series.
The German production company was established in 2017 by Tom Zickler and Christoph Fisser. At that time, Fisser was also the managing director of Babelsberg studios near Berlin, the parent company of Traumfabrik Babelsberg. Zickler was well-known for producing films starring German actor Til Schweiger until 2016. The company's name comes from its debut film, 2019’s [translate:“Traumfabrik”] ([translate:“Dreamfactory”]).
Sadly, Zickler passed away from cancer in 2019 at age 55.
After Fisser left Babelsberg at the start of last year, Traumfabrik Babelsberg became independent. It is now led by Fisser and Sebastian Fruner, a company veteran. They were joined by Konstantin Mayer, former COO of Veronica Ferres’ Construction Film Produktion.
Since this restructuring, the company has gained new momentum and holds several high-profile projects. Fruner told Variety that meeting Mayer in Cannes was a “match made in heaven,” as they share a strong ambition to create projects with international reach.
Author's summary: Traumfabrik Babelsberg revitalized as an independent producer, advancing ambitious international films and series with a fresh leadership team and promising projects.
