Edgar Wright recently hosted a private screening of his upcoming project “The Running Man” at the Paramount lot, attracting several acclaimed filmmakers including Taika Waititi, Jordan Peele, Ti West, Joseph Kosinski, Barry Jenkins, JT Mollner, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, Joe Dante, and Walter Hill.
Speaking on the Discourse Podcast, Wright confirmed the news fans have long awaited: the script for “Baby Driver 2” is complete. The filmmaker explained that production timing depends on various industry factors such as financing and cast availability.
“There is a script for ‘Baby Driver 2.’ That is something that actually exists,” Wright said. “But most filmmaking depends on factors beyond you — timing, financing, who’s available. You’re not always completely in control of those things.”
While there is still no confirmation about the return of Ansel Elgort or other original cast members, Jon Bernthal is rumored to have a larger role in the sequel. The first film, made for $34 million, grossed an impressive $227 million worldwide.
It remains unclear what Edgar Wright’s next directorial effort will be. Alongside the “Baby Driver” sequel, the filmmaker has been attached to a “Barbarella” remake starring Sydney Sweeney. His creative direction continues to attract both curiosity and anticipation among peers and audiences alike.
Though often praised as a highly skilled visual storyteller, Wright is occasionally criticized for what some describe as a tendency toward juvenile humor.
Edgar Wright completes the “Baby Driver 2” script while previewing “The Running Man” for major directors, fueling speculation about his next big project.
