India secured a narrow two-run victory over long-time rival Pakistan in the Hong Kong Sixes tournament at Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground on Friday, in a match shortened by rain.
Batting first, India posted 86 for four in its six-over quota. Robin Uthappa provided early momentum with a brisk 28 off just 11 balls. Dinesh Karthik scored 17 from 6 deliveries, while Bharat Chipli added 24 off 13, both playing short but effective cameos that strengthened the total.
Pakistan opener Khawaja Nafay launched the reply aggressively, smashing 18 runs in the first over. Maaz Sadaqat contributed a quick 7 off 3 before falling to Stuart Binny in the second over. At 41 for 1 after three overs, Pakistan appeared on course to chase down the target with Nafay (18 off 9) and Abdul Samad (16 off 6) at the crease.
“As it continued to shower relentlessly, the match officials decided to cut the game short, subsequently leading to a narrow win for India.”
With this win, India tops Pool A on two points, while Pakistan holds second place with one win and one loss. Kuwait remains at the bottom without a point. The 2025 Hong Kong Sixes group stage follows a single round-robin system, with the top two teams from each pool moving into the quarterfinals.
