Prince Harry experienced an awkward moment when Malala Yousafzai's mother pushed him away during a photo session. The activist described the incident as "terrifying."
Malala, who survived a Taliban assassination attempt in 2012 and was treated in Birmingham, met Prince Harry after winning the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 at age 17. She went to take a photo with him as the youngest-ever Nobel laureate.
Speaking on ITV's morning show with Lorraine Kelly, Malala explained that although she found Prince Harry "very, very sweet," her mother reacted strongly to his gesture.
“Prince Harry put his arm around me when we were taking a photo together, and my mum—because of the culture, it’s a man putting an arm around a girl. I was a little girl and she just went up to Prince Harry and she shoved off his hand and said, ‘Remove - no touch.’”
Malala added,
“I was terrified when that was happening—poor Prince Harry, his face went red. He was then very, very respectful but in that moment, I was thinking of what my mum had seen growing up as a kid.”
A cultural misunderstanding during a photo moment between Prince Harry and Malala Yousafzai led to her mother pushing the Prince away, highlighting deep-rooted cultural sensitivities.
