Jennifer Lawrence has inspired intimate portraits created by Wolfgang Tillmans, Elizabeth Peyton, and Philippe Parreno for W Magazine's new portrait series. This collaboration showcases the 35-year-old actor through different artistic lenses.
Since 2006, W Magazine’s Art Issue has featured prominent cultural figures captured by contemporary artists. Past editions include Mickalene Thomas photographing Cardi B, Barbara Kruger incorporating text over a nude Kim Kardashian, and George Clooney merged into Yayoi Kusama's polka dot universe.
Jennifer Lawrence appeared before three artists, each offering a unique interpretation with separate covers. The project presented:
“We wanted to work with artists who approached portraiture in different ways and who worked in different mediums. Of course, it was also important that we connected to them on a personal level,” said Sara Moonves, editor in chief at W Magazine. “Each of them approached the collaboration differently, but with great commitment and care.”
Lawrence admits she is not skilled at drawing, except for a simple horse head she can draw with childlike ease.
This project reflects both the versatility of portraiture and Lawrence’s role as a muse inspiring diverse artistic styles.
Summary: Jennifer Lawrence inspired a diverse portrait series by three contemporary artists for W Magazine, each capturing her unique essence with personal and artistic depth.
