Jennifer Lawrence humorously describes acting alongside Robert Pattinson in the film Die My Love as a form of “total revenge” after her unsuccessful audition for the Twilight series.
Lawrence revealed on the 2023 “The Rewatchables” podcast that she was immediately rejected by the studio and didn’t even get a callback for the role of Bella Swan opposite Pattinson’s Edward Cullen.
“The studio turned me down immediately. I didn’t even get a callback.”
Fifteen years and two major franchises later, Lawrence and Pattinson finally share the screen in Mubi’s new film Die My Love. At the New York premiere, she told Variety,
“Yeah, it’s the total revenge that I’ve wanted.”
Directed by Lynne Ramsay, this psychodrama marks her first feature since 2017’s You Were Never Really Here. Lawrence plays a writer experiencing a mental breakdown amid a turbulent marriage and the challenges of motherhood.
Despite their on-screen characters exchanging frequent sharp insults, Lawrence describes their off-screen relationship as calm and comfortable.
“My favorite part of working with him was probably that we could be in the same room, but not talk for a really long time. I really appreciate that in a coworker.”
Pattinson remembers first seeing Lawrence in the 2010 film Winter’s Bone, where she portrayed a struggling teenager in the Ozarks.
Jennifer Lawrence finds a satisfying irony in starring alongside Robert Pattinson after being rejected for Twilight, sharing a relaxed professional bond on set despite their intense on-screen roles.
