Gérald Caussé, a senior leader in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has been appointed as the church’s newest apostle. The announcement was made in Salt Lake City, where the faith’s headquarters are located.
Caussé, age 62, now joins the all-male Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, which guides church policy and manages its business endeavors. The apostles also form part of the presidential line of succession within the church, determined by seniority in the Quorum.
Originally from France, Caussé served for the past decade as the presiding bishop, overseeing the church’s finances and welfare programs. During his leadership, the church notably increased its humanitarian efforts and accelerated construction of temples around the world.
The faith known widely as the Mormon church does not disclose or discuss its finances, but the latest filings from its investment arm, Ensign Peak Advisors Inc., valued its portfolio at $58 billion.
The church’s holdings extend across various sectors, including real estate, agriculture, publishing, insurance, education, and cultural enterprises. Among its notable properties are universities, the Polynesian Cultural Center in Hawaii, and an upscale open-air shopping mall in Salt Lake City.
Gérald Caussé’s appointment as apostle highlights his pivotal role in managing the church’s finances and expanding its global influence through temple construction and humanitarian initiatives.
