NEW BRITAIN — The weekend brought excitement to New Britain’s CCARC, where more than a dozen participants enjoyed a lively morning of pickleball. The event took place at Club Pickleball inside the Meriden Mall and welcomed attendees of all ages with special needs.
The courts and equipment were provided by the club. The Center for Community Resources focuses on supporting individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities in the Slater Road area and has been serving the community for nearly 80 years.
Anthony Gionfriddo, director of the Beautiful Lives Project, helped coordinate the celebration as participants eagerly joined in the game that has captured national interest in recent years.
“What a fantastic morning as these folks have a chance to be part of this sport, and you can see the energy they all have and can’t wait to get on the courts. This is their time to shine, look at those smiles,” said Gionfriddo.
Adding to the excitement, actor Joseph R. Gannascoli, best known as Vito from The Sopranos, appeared as a special guest instructor. He shared his pickleball tips on the court and later joined attendees for a meet-and-greet and photo session.
