Edie Falco shared that she would love to take on the role of a female superhero, describing it as a new and exciting challenge. Known for her Emmy-winning performances in "The Sopranos" and "Nurse Jackie," Falco explained that she thrives on portraying multilayered and emotionally rich characters.
“Never have I said I can’t do that,” she explained. “You sort of find a way you can go and see, because you’re able to know you have to stop before it is dangerous. And I’ve been in therapy for 7,000 years.”
Falco emphasized her preference for roles with psychological depth and complexity.
“I look for those complicated characters. That’s what makes this exciting. To play someone with a less complicated life is less interesting.”
At 62, Falco expressed gratitude for the variety of strong female roles she has portrayed and noted the growing complexity of such characters in modern television and film.
“I’ve been very lucky that kind of since I started working, female characters are getting more interesting and complicated. I feel like I’m riding this wave of really interesting and complicated female characters.”
Reflecting on her early career, Falco said she may have escaped being typecast, which allowed her career to evolve more freely.
“I imagine if you’re only ever playing young, beautiful, sexy women, it’s going to get harder as you get older.”
She also admitted she’d like to explore a political role in the future.
“Maybe I can get something out of my system,” she quipped.
Edie Falco seeks the thrill of portraying a female superhero, continuing her passion for emotionally complex and challenging roles that define her acclaimed career.
