Edgar Wright Says He’s Still On A “Cape Break” 12 Years After Leaving ‘Ant-Man’ & Once Considered A Choose Your Own Adventure Cut Of ‘Shaun Of The Dead’

Edgar Wright Remains on His “Cape Break”

Filmmaker Edgar Wright shared insights about his career path in a conversation on The Playlist’s Discourse Podcast, discussing his past decision to step away from Marvel’s Ant-Man and a never-made idea for an interactive version of Shaun of the Dead.

Leaving Marvel Without Regrets

“I didn’t regret my decision to leave at all,” Wright said. “I had started working on that film long before even ‘Iron Man’ came out. By the time it came around, they had established the brand, the continuity, and even a certain way of making a movie. So the chance to do something really different was going away.”

Wright emphasized that he has “no regrets” about his choice and continues to avoid returning to superhero filmmaking. He noted that his creative vision diverged from Marvel’s approach as the universe expanded.

A Lost Experiment: Shaun of the Dead Reimagined

The director also mentioned a scrapped concept for a Shaun of the Dead sequel imagined as a “choose your own adventure” project—an interactive take on his classic zombie film that never came to fruition.

Looking Ahead

During the podcast, Wright discussed his upcoming film The Running Man and reflected on how moving forward creatively remains his main focus.

Author’s summary: Edgar Wright openly discussed his creative choices, reaffirming no regrets about leaving Ant-Man while unveiling his once-considered “choose your own adventure” take on Shaun of the Dead.
