This New Moroccan Wellness Centre Feels Carved Straight from the Atlantic Cliffs
Blending natural stone and bold design, the Anfa Cliff Wellness Centre in Morocco sets a new benchmark for wellness retreats by integrating itself seamlessly with the landscape. Instead of a conventional building, it resembles a part of the Atlantic cliffside from which it seemingly emerges.
Design Inspired by Nature and Geology
The centre was designed by Moroccan architect Ali Lahlou, whose vision was to create a unique sanctuary unlike any other in the country. The facility’s walls and surfaces mirror the solid mineral weight of the surrounding rocks, producing an immersive experience where retreat meets terrain.
“The client’s vision was to create something that doesn’t exist in Morocco,” said Lahlou. “Not another wellness centre, but a true refuge where people can disconnect from the city and reconnect with elemental forces.”
A Unique Wellness Experience
Visitors encounter wellness not through traditional comforts like scented candles or towels but through a direct and humbling interaction with natural elements. The mineral textures and massive stone forms contrast human scale against the vast permanence of stone and sea.
“The entrance was designed to make a strong first impression,” Lahlou explained. “It introduces the mineral character of the project immediately.”
An Entrance That Defines the Space
The reception area features large rock-inspired structures embracing a bench where a tree grows upright, its leaves illuminated like breaking through geological layers. This design creates a profound sense of arrival, making visitors feel grounded and small in an ancient landscape — as if gathering around a primeval fire.
