Underground Thursdays Hosts Spooky Showcase

The Spooky Showcase marked the most recent edition of Underground Thursdays, bringing together dozens of students in the Underground under the dim glow of blue and red LED lights. Dressed in costumes, with face paint and teddy bear accessories, they entertained the crowd through singing, stand-up comedy, and other live performances.

This monthly performing arts event is organized by the Student Activities Office. According to coordinator Lachlan McCann ’27, while most performers register in advance for the Spooky Showcase, other editions function as open mic nights, offering a “no barrier to entry” atmosphere for anyone wishing to perform.

“We provide instruments when necessary and even allow audience members to join in during open time slots,” McCann said.

Since 2022, Marisa Fortney, assistant director of the Stephen Robert ’62 Campus Center and student activities, has supervised Underground Thursdays and observed its steady growth.

“When I first arrived, the space mainly featured songwriters, cover artists, and bands,” Fortney wrote to The Herald. “Now, we also welcome comedians, poets, and even magicians.”
