Elder Gérald Caussé has been appointed as the newest member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His calling and ordination took place on Thursday, November 6, 2025, under the direction of President Dallin H. Oaks, along with the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
“I’ve always had a testimony of Jesus Christ. He’s always been at the center of my life, and I know He’s our Savior and Redeemer. What a wonderful blessing it is to be a witness of Christ. That is the greatest responsibility we can have in this life.”
Apostles serve as special witnesses of Christ’s name throughout the world. Beyond their spiritual role, they also carry major administrative duties, overseeing the growth and functioning of the global Church. The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles is the second-highest governing body in the Church, operating under the direction of the First Presidency, which consists of the Church President and two counselors.
At 62, Elder Caussé is a native of Bordeaux, France. Prior to this appointment, he had served for eleven years as the Church’s Presiding Bishop. He was the third Presiding Bishop born outside the United States and the first to have English as a second language.
