Sam Ryder, the singer-songwriter famous for his 2022 Eurovision hit "Space Man," will take the lead role in Jesus Christ Superstar at the London Palladium next summer. This marks Ryder's theatrical debut, showcasing his versatility beyond singing.
The upcoming show is a reimagined version of director Timothy Sheader’s 2016 production at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, which enjoyed two additional runs before transferring to the Barbican and touring the UK and the US.
Producer Michael Harrison said it was “thrilling” to have a new version created especially for the Palladium, adding: “In Sam we have a true superstar to play the iconic title role.”
Ryder expressed pride in following legendary rock vocalists such as Ian Gillan and John Farnham in portraying Jesus, highlighting Jesus Christ Superstar as “one of the biggest institutions in musical theatre the world’s ever known.”
Ryder stated he was honoured to take on this role in a production considered an institution of musical theatre worldwide.
