Musician Claire Elise Boucher, known as Grimes and Elon Musk’s former partner, expressed deep concern about the growing influence of artificial intelligence on children’s development. She used social media to share her perspective on the risks AI technology presents.
“The biggest imminent threat is just outsourcing thinking,”
Grimes linked this concern to her ex-partner Elon Musk’s use of advanced AI systems in his social platform X, formerly known as Twitter. In February, Musk introduced Grok 3, describing it as “the smartest AI on Earth.”
Referencing certain studies, Grimes warned that AI could “atrophy the brain,” echoing parallels with previous harmful social experiments affecting youth. In a conversation with Joshua Citarella from Doomscroll, she remarked:
“I’m tired of experimenting on kids, you know — smoking, McDonald’s, and now we’re gonna do it with this?”
The artist highlighted concerns that Musk’s AI-enhanced platform, available to users 13 and older, currently lacks an effective age verification system. Despite worrying that AI may harm young minds, Grimes also admitted to feeling a strange anticipation for what advanced intelligence might bring.
“In some ways I can’t wait for superintelligence — it’s not as easy since I’ve had kids,”
Her remarks reflect both apprehension and curiosity about the coming evolution of AI and its effect on future generations.
Grimes voiced strong concerns over unchecked AI use by children, warning of mental decline yet expressing hesitant fascination with future superintelligence.
