Starbucks clarified the situation after fans expressed frustration over the rapid sellout of the viral bear-shaped holiday cup released on November 6. The coffee giant acknowledged the overwhelming demand and apologized for the limited supply.
“The excitement for our merchandise exceeded even our biggest expectations. Despite shipping more Bearista cups to coffeehouses than almost any other merchandise item this holiday season, the Bearista cup and some other items sold out fast.”
The Seattle-based company did not disclose the number of cups produced or confirm plans for a restock. Each Bearista cup included a green-and-white reusable straw that complemented the bear’s Starbucks-green beanie.
Starbucks assured customers that “more exciting merchandise” will be launched throughout the holiday season.
Before the official apology, many customers voiced their disappointment in the comments of the November 5 promotional video, lamenting their inability to purchase the collectible cup.
Starbucks faced unexpected demand for its Bearista cup, quickly selling out and apologizing to fans while promising additional holiday merchandise soon.
