Canada is preparing to pause and honour the soldiers who fought and continue to serve, protecting the nation through the First and Second World Wars and beyond. In Niagara-on-the-Lake, the community comes together to recognize this solemn occasion.

The museum began its poppy drive in October and has helped place 75 poppy wreaths throughout the heritage district.
“Everything,” said Al Howse, president of the legion, describing the busy preparations for the commemorations.
The legion’s poppy drive started on October 11. Members collect donations and distribute poppies on the streets to support veterans and their families through the poppy trust fund.
“We accept donations at that time for our poppy trust fund to support veterans and their families,” said Howse.
Poppies are available at over 200 businesses in the area, with thousands already distributed.
Niagara-on-the-Lake will hold a variety of commemorative events both before and on November 11 to honour the sacrifices of Canadians in war and peace.
