It’s Belgium’s Charles-Henri Berguet from RC Vannes speaking! Rugby Europe and Belgium invited me to write a blog about our journey through the Final Qualification Tournament for the Rugby World Cup 2027, which starts next Saturday in Dubai. I gladly accepted, so let’s begin with the start of our adventure — the travel.
We arrived on Monday after gathering in Brussels. Though the journey seemed long on paper, it wasn’t so in reality, as we enjoy being together. We all aim to achieve something big, not only for our loyal fans who have supported us at every step but also for ourselves. We are a team known as Belgium, the Diables Noirs.
Namibia will be our first major test. To overcome them, we must control the tempo and pace of the match. The opening twenty minutes are crucial because they reveal which team adapts best to the conditions. The team with the strongest spirit will emerge victorious.
Namibia, like us, has the skills and qualities to reach the World Cup, as do Samoa and Brazil. Everyone has an equal chance, making this tournament very exciting.
“Why do I think we have a good chance? Because we feel as one, and, as I’ve mentioned, we like to spend time with each other, even when we are not in national team camps.”
This unity gives us confidence going into the competition.
