Woody Harrelson has dismissed any hopes of reuniting for a new season of True Detective, firmly stating there is "not a chance" he would reprise his role as Marty Hart.
On October 31, during an interview with Dylan Dreyer on the 3rd Hour of Today, Harrelson addressed the possibility of returning to the hit drama alongside co-star Matthew McConaughey.
"A lot of folks want to know if there will ever be another True Detective with you and Matthew McConaughey," Dreyer asked. "[McConaughey] actually said he would be into it, if Woody and I think it’s good enough. It wouldn’t even be a choice. Would you do another one?"
Harrelson replied: "Matthew’s so funny. Not a chance… Because it turned out great. I love that it turned out the way it did, and if anything, doing another season would, I think, tarnish that."
Last month, McConaughey spoke about his return to film with The Lost Bus and touched on the discussions about a possible True Detective revival, emphasizing that the project would “have to be special” for his return.
In May, it surfaced that series creator Nic Pizzolatto had pitched an idea that could bring both Harrelson and McConaughey back together on screen. McConaughey expressed some excitement but noted he hadn’t seen a script yet.
Harrelson’s rejection of a new season underscores his belief that the original series ended perfectly and should remain untouched.
