The New Orleans Pelicans faced the San Antonio Spurs at Frost Bank Center but fell short with a 126-119 loss despite Trey Murphy’s impressive effort.
“It was great and we needed it from him,” Pelicans coach Willie Green said. “He scored on every level tonight. He got to the free-throw line. He rebounded the ball well, something that we’ve been talking about.”
Despite Murphy’s hot shooting night and his consistent scoring since the season opener against San Antonio, the Pelicans struggled to contain Wembanyama and missed the opportunity to build on their recent momentum.
Murphy’s previous season-high was 24 points, also achieved against the Spurs in New Orleans.
Trey Murphy’s career-tying 41 points and strong all-around play highlighted the game, but the Pelicans fell to the Spurs 126-119, ending their brief winning streak.
Author’s note: Murphy’s standout performance underlines his growing impact, yet the team’s defense and depth remain challenges against strong opponents.
