Created by Liz and Jeff Astrof and executive produced by Monica Aldama, known from Netflix’s “Cheer,” NBC’s new sitcom “Stumble” dives into the thrilling and comical world of junior college cheerleading. This mockumentary blends sharp humor with heartfelt moments, offering a satirical look at the relentless drive for perfection in competitive sports.
Set in the fictional town of Wichita Flats, Texas, the series centers on Courteney Potter, played by Jenn Lyon, one of the most successful coaches in college cheer history. Passionate to the point of obsession, Courteney aims to claim her 15th national title and surpass the mentor who once made her life miserable as a cheerleader.
“Courteney Potter is ready to grab her 15th championship and prove herself as the most decorated coach in college cheerleading.”
Her ambition hits a wall when she’s dismissed from Sammy Davis Sr. Junior College after an ill-fated celebration involving drinks and a questionable set of awards. Her husband Boone, portrayed by Taran Killam, urges her to take a break, but Courteney’s competitive spirit drives her toward a new challenge instead.
Unable to walk away from her passion, Courteney accepts a coaching position 80 miles away at Headleston Junior College in Oklahoma — home of the Buttons. There, she’s determined to rebuild her legacy and finally seize her long-awaited victory, no matter what obstacles stand in her way.
Kristin Chenoweth joins the ensemble as an eccentric rival coach, adding sharp wit and energy to the mix. Together, the cast delivers a hysterical yet heartfelt portrayal of ambition, teamwork, and redemption within a fiercely competitive world.
