Joseph Morales made a triumphant return to the UFC, capturing a first-round submission win over Matt Schnell in the co-main event of UFC Vegas 111. The bout marked his first fight in the promotion since winning season 33 of The Ultimate Fighter.
Although Schnell took the fight to the ground early, Morales quickly reversed the position and gained side control. Maintaining steady pressure, he first threatened a kimura before transitioning into a crucifix and finally locking in a guillotine choke.
Morales forced Schnell to tap out in the first round, sealing an impressive comeback victory.
During his first UFC run between 2017 and 2018, Morales compiled a 1–2 record, including a defeat to future flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo. His path back to the promotion came through an impressive TUF 33 campaign, where he earned wins over Eduardo Henrique, Imanol Rodriguez, and Alibi Idiris.
With this performance, Morales reasserted himself in the flyweight division. Meanwhile, Schnell has now lost four of his last five bouts and remains winless in five of his last seven appearances.
Author’s Summary: Joseph Morales reemerged as a serious flyweight contender with a decisive submission win at UFC Vegas 111, marking a symbolic new chapter in his fighting career.
