Southport Killer's Parents Should Be Held to Account, Say Family

Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, was one of three young girls stabbed to death by Axel Rudakubana during a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport on July 29 last year.

The parents of Elsie and the other victims have called for Rudakubana's mother and father to be held responsible for the tragedy.

Details from Inquiry

During an inquiry, it was revealed that Rudakubana's mother made a 'zip it' gesture to his father as he was about to discuss their son's troubling behavior with a support worker.

Rudakubana's father, Alphonse, admitted he was aware that Axel was collecting large knives and weapons in the months leading up to the attack. He also said he may have prevented an attempt by his son to set fire to his former school just a week before the murders.

Family Statements

The parents of the three girls released strong statements accusing Rudakubana's parents of avoiding the truth about their son's escalating behavior.

Jenni and David Stancombe, Elsie's parents, said: "They knew his behaviour was escalating. They saw the signs, the obsession, the growing desire to harm, especially in the months, weeks, and days before the attack. And still, they did nothing."
"We believe they should be held to account for what they allowed to happen," they added.

Summary

The parents of the victims demand accountability from Axel Rudakubana's parents for ignoring clear warning signs that led to the fatal attack.
