Avelo Airlines, recently criticized for withdrawing all flights from Bradley International Airport, is celebrating its four-year presence at Tweed-New Haven Airport with a new promotional offer. The budget airline serves 28 nonstop destinations from Tweed and announced a deal providing 20% off base fares plus additional savings for Avelo PLUS members.
The Connecticut Airport Authority expressed strong disappointment over Avelo's exit from Bradley International Airport, particularly lamenting the cancellation of the state's only nonstop service to Montego Bay, Jamaica.
“We were especially disappointed and surprised about the decision to cancel the state’s only nonstop service to Montego Bay, Jamaica.”
Avelo's spokeswoman defended the decision, stating it was based on financial realities. She explained the revenues at Bradley did not justify the costs and rejected alternative explanations as “unfortunate, false and uninformed.”
“Like all business decisions we make, this exit was made based on facts – the revenues on the market did not cover the costs. Any other insinuation to the contrary is unfortunate, false and uninformed. We remain committed to serving the state of Connecticut through our low fares out of New Haven Tweed airport.”
