Rick Stein reveals his favourite hidden Sydney restaurant
British chef and television personality Rick Stein, who splits his time between the UK and Australia, has discovered several casual local spots in Sydney that he keeps returning to — including one he calls a true hidden gem.
Stein shared with Broadsheet that his top choices for a relaxed meal and classic pub dining are both located in Neutral Bay, just a few streets apart. When craving something light, he heads to the modest Japanese eatery Tobikiri.
“I love Tobikiri, a tiny husband-and-wife Japanese restaurant in Neutral Bay with about 10 tables. It’s amazing what a husband and wife and one waiter can do,” said Rick Stein.
Tucked away behind Military Road, Tobikiri specializes in traditional Japanese dishes prepared with skill and care. Locals call it “a great little authentic restaurant,” and online reviews consistently praise its cosy atmosphere and fresh offerings.
