The NHS has issued a flu jab SOS, warning that the worst of the winter season is fast approaching. England’s top nurse is urging people to get vaccinated now to stay protected as flu cases rise sharply.
Health officials note that flu infections are appearing more than a month earlier than usual, with reported cases already triple compared to the same time last year. Eligible adults are strongly encouraged to book their flu vaccination as soon as possible to reduce the strain on health services.
“The flu vaccination is the best possible way to protect yourself and your loved ones against flu as we move into the winter months,” said Chief Nursing Officer for NHS Sussex, Allison Cannon. “It’s a quick, simple, and almost painless injection that can help keep you and your family well through winter.”
Since the national campaign began, NHS teams have administered over 13 million flu shots across the country (13,299,775). In Sussex alone, 428,297 doses have been delivered, covering 43.7% of those eligible.
The NHS calls for immediate flu vaccinations as early flu cases surge and winter nears, stressing the vaccine’s role in preventing widespread illness and easing healthcare pressure.
