A snow squall watch has been issued for Sarnia, Petrolia, and Lambton County. Environment Canada warned that snow squalls could occur from late Sunday night through Tuesday morning, with heavy lake-effect snow ranging from 15 to 30 cm, and even higher amounts in some areas.
“Prepare for the possibility of quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions,” Environment Canada advised.
A weather statement reported snowfall of two to five centimeters likely on Sunday, continuing into the evening. This accumulation could make travel dangerous and reduce visibility to near zero at times.
“The snow is falling and so should your speed,” Sgt. Ed Sanchuk of the West Region OPP said in a social media post.
“You want to be visible,” he said. “Arriving safely is what matters most,” stated the West Region OPP post.
Environment Canada specified that lake-effect snow would likely affect Lambton on Sunday evening and possibly reach locations near the eastern shore of Lake Huron on Monday morning. Squalls may also spread toward Lake Erie.
Author's summary: Significant snow squalls with heavy accumulation are forecasted for Lambton County, requiring cautious driving and preparation for rapidly changing winter weather conditions.
