Typhoon Fung-wong has moved away from the northwestern Philippines after causing severe floods and landslides. It has left at least four people dead and displaced more than 1.4 million residents. The typhoon knocked out power across entire provinces before heading northwest toward Taiwan.
The typhoon struck the northern Philippines while the country was still recovering from the effects of Typhoon Kalmaegi, which caused at least 224 deaths in central provinces and later hit Vietnam, killing at least five there.
Fung-wong made landfall in northeastern Aurora province Sunday night as a super typhoon, with sustained winds reaching 185 kph (115 mph) and gusts up to 230 kph (143 mph). The storm, spanning 1,800 kilometers (1,100 miles) wide, weakened as it passed through northern mountainous provinces and agricultural areas overnight.

The typhoon then moved from La Union province into the South China Sea, according to state weather forecasters.
