A woman from Havant is in disbelief after winning £250,000 in the People’s Postcode Lottery, despite intending to cancel her direct debit beforehand.
Juliette Spencer-Besant, 47, won the prize after her Lockerley Road postcode, PO9 2LD, was drawn as the weekly Millionaire Street prize. The postcode covers a nine-storey block of flats in Leigh Park. Three ticket holders from this area each received a quarter of a million pounds, with Juliette calling it “the luckiest thing that’s ever happened to me.”
Juliette was stunned when Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt arrived at her door with the surprise cheque. She recalled:
“There was disbelief when I saw the cheque and then a wave of emotion came over me. But I managed to pull it together.”
Juliette explained that she planned to cancel her direct debit months ago but got distracted by work and personal matters:
“I was going to cancel a couple of months back, but I’m really bad at personal stuff. I was going through direct debits and bits and pieces. Promotion came up at work and I’ve been working for that for the last two months and never got round to it.”
She added that despite cancelling some subscriptions, life got in the way of stopping the Postcode Lottery payment.
Juliette intends to invest her money wisely but will first enjoy some treats for herself. She also plans to continue playing the lottery.
Juliette’s unexpected fortune reminds us how a simple oversight can bring life-changing luck.
