This season has truly had it all. The Abbotsford Canucks, struggling through an eight-game losing streak, arrived in Loveland, Colorado, with only half their roster available, one healthy goaltender, and hope. Unfortunately, by the third period, that hope was dashed.
Starting goalie Ty Young delivered a strong performance with 18 saves but left the game due to injury, forcing the Canucks to rely on an Emergency Backup Goalie (EBUG) for the remainder of the match.
The EBUG was a 21-year-old Farmers Insurance sales representative from Denver, who was called upon to finish the third period against the league-leading Colorado Eagles.
While he made a commendable effort, it failed to bail them out of their predicament, as the visiting Canucks would drop a ninth straight game in front of a sold-out crowd at Blue Arena.
The 2025-26 season has become less about competing and more about survival for the Canucks. With a depleted lineup and ongoing challenges, the team’s focus is now on enduring rather than thriving.
These days, all the team can do is laugh in the face of adversity.
