The Vancouver Goldeneyes will take to the ice for the home-opener Friday night in front of a sold-out crowd at the Pacific Coliseum. They were named as one of two expansion teams to the Professional Women’s Hockey League last April.

“I’m just thrilled to be able to play in front of my home crowd and have this amazing opportunity and really show the city of Vancouver what we’re all about,” said Richmond-native and Goldeneye forward Katie Chan.

The 15,000 game tickets sold out the day before the event. The team, which wears blue, bronze and gold uniforms, is the first in the PWHL to be the anchor tenant of an arena. The other new team named to the league are coast-rivals, the Seattle Torrent, and it’s the Torrent who will take to the ice against the Goldeneyes on Friday. The other game planned for Friday will be two-time Walter Cup champion Minnesota Frost as their host, the Toronto Septers.

“I’m just super grateful, so excited, and the support has been incredible. I can’t wait for a great game and to connect with our community,” said forward Darcie Lappan.

Puck drop is scheduled for Friday at 7:00 P.M. Game two will be away against the Ottawa Charge on November 26th.
