The Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) has unveiled nature-inspired branding for its new west coast additions, the Seattle Torrent and the Vancouver Goldeneyes. These identities extend beyond aesthetics, carrying meaningful regional symbolism.
The Goldeneyes’ name stems from the goldeneye duck, a species found around the coastline of Vancouver and much of British Columbia.
The logo features a sharp golden eye surrounded by a wing angled upwards toward the Pacific Northwest. The color palette includes Pacific blue, coastal cream, earthy bronze, with accents of sunset gold and sky blue. These are the team’s primary colors.
The branding for the Seattle Torrent uses aquatic imagery to reflect the region’s maritime environment, aligning with the PWHL’s goal of strong regional identity and creativity.
“In both Vancouver and Seattle, nature is such an incredible presence. Everywhere you look, all around you, it plays such a huge role in everyone's life, and that was something that we wanted to make sure we captured,” said Kanan Bhatt-Shah, PWHL VP of brand and marketing, during the branding reveal.
The designs aim to balance creativity with a clear regional connection, leveraging wildlife symbolism for Vancouver and aquatic imagery for Seattle to create distinctive, nature-inspired identities.
