[Lebanon president says country does not want war with Israel]

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun told a United Nations Security Council delegation on Friday that Lebanon does not want war with Israel, days after civilian casualties in the region raised tension. Aoun emphasized the importance of stability and urged all parties to avoid actions that could escalate into broader conflict. He reiterated Beirut’s commitment to deter aggression while pursuing dialogue and adherence to international law. The remarks come amid ongoing regional diplomacy and international concern over flare-ups along the Lebanon-Israel border.

In parallel, UN officials underscored the need for restraint and the protection of civilians, noting that any escalation would have severe humanitarian consequences. The presidency did not indicate any immediate changes in Lebanon’s security posture, but affirmed readiness to defend the country’s sovereignty if necessary.

The discussion with the UNSC delegation occurred as regional mediators continued to push for de-escalation and negotiations to prevent further hostilities.
