Somerset Council is encouraging eligible residents to get their flu vaccination if they haven't done so already. The best time to get the flu jab is during autumn or early winter, before the virus starts circulating widely.
This year, flu cases are already being reported. Flu is more serious than a bad cold; it can increase the risk of developing severe lung and airway infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia or worsen existing health conditions.
Protecting yourself means protecting others. With flu already circulating, now is the perfect time for those who are eligible. It’s quick, safe, and helps stop the spread to those most at risk.
- Councillor Graham Oakes, Somerset Council’s Executive Member for Public Health, Climate Change and Environment
Getting vaccinated not only protects individuals but also helps reduce the spread to vulnerable populations.
Somerset Council urges eligible residents to get vaccinated against the flu now to protect themselves and their community as flu cases rise early this season.
