Lionsgate has secured the rights to the upcoming Rambo prequel and the The Expendables franchise. Noah Centineo is in final talks to star as a younger John Rambo in the new film.
The studio will develop and produce all derivative works, including future films and television productions of The Expendables franchise. This action series includes four films released between 2010 and 2023. Lionsgate also obtained the distribution rights for John Rambo, the upcoming sixth installment and prequel to the landmark action series that began in 1982.
Known for his roles in Netflix’s 2022 series The Recruit and the 2018 romantic comedy To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, Centineo is set to portray a younger version of the legendary action hero originally played by Sylvester Stallone.
“This deal expands Lionsgate’s portfolio of genre-defining action franchises and reinforces our commitment to delivering world-class IP across multiple platforms,” said Lionsgate COO Brian Goldsmith.
This acquisition strengthens Lionsgate’s position in the action genre by reviving iconic franchises through new productions and star casting.
