Samsung secured the top position in global smartphone shipments for the third quarter (July to September), according to the latest Omdia report. The South Korean company shipped 60.6 million smartphones, capturing 19% of the global market. Apple closely followed Samsung with 56.5 million units shipped, representing an 18% market share and a 4% year-on-year growth. The strong performance was supported by high demand for the base iPhone 17, which outperformed launch expectations due to its enhanced value proposition.
Xiaomi shipped 43.4 million smartphones, holding a 14% market share. Although its shipments in China slowed after the end of state subsidy programs, growth in the Asia-Pacific and other international markets led to a 1% increase in shipments compared to the previous year.
Transsion, the parent company of Infinix, Tecno, and iTel, ranked fourth with 28.6 million shipments and a 9% market share. It posted the highest growth among the top five, rising 12% annually. The brand continues to expand, particularly in emerging markets like Africa and South Asia.
