Global smartphone shipments grew to 320.1 million units in the third quarter of 2025, marking a 3% year-over-year increase. According to a new Omdia report, the market has started to recover after a sluggish first half of the year.
Between July and September, about 320.1 million smartphones were delivered worldwide. Although the growth is modest, it signals a positive turn for the industry.
The recovery is not uniform across all segments. The lowest-priced smartphones, typically under 100 dollars, and premium models costing over 700 dollars continue to perform strongly. Mid-range devices, however, remain under pressure.
Samsung retained its top position with 60.6 million units shipped and a 19% global market share—up 6% from the same period last year. Its balanced strategy, combining high-end foldable models such as the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Flip7 with affordable options like the Galaxy A07 and A17, has proven effective.
Strong demand in the Middle East and Asia-Pacific regions was pivotal in Samsung’s results this quarter.
Apple followed closely behind, shipping 56.5 million units in Q3 and capturing 18% of the global smartphone market.
“Samsung still holds the crown as the top smartphone maker globally,” noted the Omdia report.
The smartphone market is cautiously recovering in 2025, with growth concentrated in budget and premium models, while Samsung and Apple continue to dominate global sales.
