Prince Harry faced criticism after wearing a Los Angeles Dodgers cap during the World Series game against the Toronto Blue Jays. The event took place on 28 October at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, where Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, attended Game 4 of the series.
The Duke of Sussex was criticised for sporting a Dodgers hat instead of showing support for the Toronto Blue Jays, the only Canadian team in Major League Baseball (MLB). This was seen as a slight since his father, King Charles, is the head of state for Canada and 13 other Commonwealth realms.
Fans noted the lack of backing for a Commonwealth nation’s team, according to People magazine.
On 6 November, Harry addressed the controversy during an interview with CTV News, where he expressed his affection for Canada and issued an apology.
"Well, firstly, I would like to apologise to Canada for wearing it," said Harry.
He humorously added that he was "under duress" to wear the cap, explaining that he had "wasn't much choice" as he was invited to the Los Angeles Dodgers box or the dugout by the owner himself.
Prince Harry’s apology shows his respect for Canada while acknowledging the awkward position he was put in during the World Series game.
