At least two people have died and five others hospitalised after consuming poisonous alcohol in Mutuati village, Meru County. The victims initially suffered severe headaches and loss of vision.
The incident occurred on November 5, 2027, according to local officials. The first victim, James Mutembei, was found dead at a shopping centre after drinking alcohol at a nearby home. Police confirmed he had consumed a suspected contaminated brew along with six others.
Police investigated the location where the group consumed the traditional brew known as Musengeri and confiscated ten litres of it. The bodies of the deceased were taken to the mortuary for autopsy and further investigations.
Samples of the seized alcohol were sent to the Government Chemist for analysis to determine the type of poison involved.
The remaining five victims remain under medical care in serious condition. Authorities continue countrywide operations targeting illicit brews.
