The Raiders' season reached a new low Thursday night as quarterback Geno Smith suffered an injury, contributing to a 10-7 defeat against the Broncos.
Smith finished with 143 passing yards and one interception. His injury occurred on the first play of the fourth quarter when he attempted to scramble past Denver linebacker Nik Bonitto. Bonitto made contact with Smith's right knee, causing Smith to stumble before falling and being knocked down by Malcolm Roach.
“Smith took several more awkward steps before falling to the ground and being landed on by Malcolm Roach.”
Smith briefly exited the game, replaced by Kenny Pickett, but returned before being listed as questionable due to a left quadriceps issue.
Besides Smith, guards Dylan Parham and Jackson Powers-Johnson both left with ankle injuries. Coach Pete Carroll indicated Powers-Johnson will miss an extended time recovering.
The Raiders' offense struggled overall, managing only 188 yards and dropping to a 2-7 record for the season.
“It was a brutal night for the Raiders' offense as it produced just 188 yards, condemning Las Vegas to a 2-7 record on the year.”
Geno Smith’s injury deepened the Raiders’ offensive woes in a tough loss, highlighting injury struggles and a disappointing 2-7 season start.
