Netflix has unveiled the opening sequence of Stranger Things Season 5, taking viewers back to the mysterious night of Will Byers’ disappearance in 1983 and his chilling connection to the Upside Down.
The first five minutes of the final season bring the story full circle, beginning in the eerie stillness of the Upside Down. Instead of continuing from the Season 4 finale, this new chapter reopens the night when Hawkins discovered that something was terribly wrong.
The premiere episode, titled “The Crawl,” revisits November 12, 1983—six days after Will vanished. A young Noah Schnapp reprises his role as a 12-year-old Will, sitting alone in the shadowy replica of Castle Byers, visibly frightened and weary.
He quietly sings “Should I Stay or Should I Go,” the song introduced by his brother Jonathan (played by Charlie Heaton) in Season 1, which has remained Will’s emotional anchor throughout the series.
Moments later, unsettling noises stir outside the fort. Clutching a hunting rifle—a nod to the earliest episodes—Will attempts to defend himself. His desperate climb up a nearby tree ends when an unseen creature pulls him into the depths of Vecna’s lair.
Stranger Things Season 5 trailer drops: Millie Bobby Brown's Eleven returns for the epic final battle.
