Thode Door Thode Paas Review: Pleasant Watch

Pankaj Kapur, who clearly enjoys his role as the patriarch of this family circus, is the key element that keeps Thode Door Thode Paas cohesive, notes Deepa Gahlot. The addiction of teenagers to smartphones and social media has recently become a growing concern, especially because of its negative effects on their mental health. However, in today’s world, staying connected is almost essential, and completely disconnecting is not feasible for everyone.

Plot Overview

In the five-episode series, retired naval officer Ashwin Mehta (Pankaj Kapur) comes back home after a long time to find his family deeply engrossed in their gadgets, barely communicating with each other. His elder son, Kunal (Kunaal Roy Kapoor), is a successful numerologist, while his wife Simran (Mona Singh) runs a boutique from their garage. Their teenage daughter Avni (Ayesha Kaduskar) attends college, their son Vivaan (Sartaaj Kakkar) is addicted to gaming, and the youngest son Kumud (Gurpreet Saini) is both a serial womanizer and a professional blogger.

Family Dynamics and Digital Detox

Disturbed by the absence of genuine interactions at home, Mehta decides to “purchase the family's time.” He promises each member one crore if they agree to a six-month digital fast. Although living in a sprawling mansion makes one crore a modest sum, their greed shines through as they surrender their electronic devices.

Pankaj Kapur is the glue that holds Thode Door Thode Paas together, observes Deepa Gahlot.

While the offer of a digital detox seems tough, it challenges the family to find warmth and connection beyond their screens.
