Livinia Nixon, a beloved weather presenter known for starting her on-air career with Hey Hey, It’s Saturday, will continue appearing on the travel shows Postcards and Getaway. After two decades as Nine’s trusted weather presenter, she announced her departure from the nightly weather role this November.
“I’ve been on air for more of my life than I’ve not,” she said with a laugh after the announcement on Friday afternoon. “I’m looking forward to a breather.”
At 50, Nixon will remain with Nine Network, focusing on her travel programs. She chose to step down from her weeknight broadcasts to spend more time with her family, especially as her youngest son, Ted, is about to start high school alongside his older brother Henry.
“Presenting the weather has shaped my life and career. I owe this role everything but this is the right decision for me,” Nixon said. “When I discussed it with our boys, they said ‘we’re pretty excited to spend more time with you, Mum’.”
One of her most unforgettable moments was reporting live from Healesville Sanctuary, wearing a green tree python around her neck. She recalled how the snake tightened its grip and tried to sneak inside her jacket.
“I’d never read the weather as quickly in my life,” she laughed.
Livinia Nixon’s decision marks the end of an era for Nine's evening weather forecasts, while opening a new chapter that balances her career with family priorities.
