Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown is being extradited to Miami to face an attempted murder charge related to a shooting outside a celebrity boxing event in May, authorities confirmed.
Miami Police announced on Thursday that 37-year-old Brown was transferred from Dubai to Miami. A public affairs officer from the U.S. Marshals Service confirmed Brown arrived earlier Thursday via Newark, New Jersey, where he was booked into the Essex County Jail.
A warrant was issued in June charging Brown with attempted murder with a firearm. The charge stems from a shooting on May 16 near Northeast 2nd Avenue and 67th Street outside the event venue.
An off-duty officer providing event security said he left after hearing gunfire and later saw Brown fighting with another individual in the parking lot.
“He was kind of taunting us, saying, I'm safe here, and that's what we interpreted from those videos, but you know what, he was laughing then, we're getting the last laugh,” said Officer Michael Vega. “No matter who you are, what power or what money you have, if you commit a crime in the city of Miami, we're going to identify and locate you and bring you to justice.”
While Brown was evading arrest, Miami Police noted he posted videos from Dubai, seemingly confident he was out of reach.
Summary: Antonio Brown, former NFL player, was extradited from Dubai to Miami to face charges of attempted murder linked to a May shooting at a celebrity boxing event, marking the end of his time on the run.
