Joseph Morales is ready to give his son the intense fight he’s been asking for when he meets Matt Schnell this Saturday. The TUF 33 flyweight champion, known as “Bopo,” says life hasn’t changed much since winning the show—except when people recognize him in public, giving his son a few ideas about fame.
“I was at In-N-Out about to take a bite, and this guy comes up and says, ‘Hey, you fought in the UFC, great fight.’ My son just tells me I’m famous. I try to tell him no, we’re not famous.”
Even though Morales insists he isn’t famous, several encounters with fans suggest otherwise. His son now sees recognition as a goal of his own achievements.
“His thing is, ‘If I do good at football or win my jiu-jitsu tournaments, I’ll get recognized.’ He’s more excited than I am to be noticed in those weird moments.”
The attention has made Morales more aware of being a role model. He wants to lead by example for his children while continuing to pursue his career ambitions.
“This is why I fight. It’s not for money but for the glory. I want to show I’m one of the best fighters in the world — and for him to be proud no matter what.”
Morales hopes his dedication inspires his son to chase his own dreams. As his son aims to become a professional athlete, Morales will have another chance to make his family proud this Saturday in his UFC debut against Matt Schnell.
Joseph Morales balances fatherhood and fighting, striving to inspire his son through determination, humility, and passion ahead of his UFC debut.
