A 33-year-old Berea man was cited on November 4 after he drove his Jeep past a stopped school bus on Baldwin Drive.
A woman reported that her son was boarding the school bus at about 7:15 a.m. when she noticed a Jeep behind the bus. The bus had its stop sign lowered and lights flashing, indicating it was stopped to pick up children.
The Jeep started to move forward, and the woman feared the driver intended to pass the bus. She silently mouthed, “Don’t do it” to the driver, but he proceeded to drive around the school bus despite her efforts to stop him by standing in front of the bus and waving.
The woman recalled some letter combinations from the Jeep’s license plate, although she didn’t know the exact numbers. The bus driver also remembered partial number sequences from the plate.
Police used the information to search various letter and number combinations and identified a matching license plate registered to a 2020 Jeep. The owner lived near Baldwin Drive.
“Don’t do it,” the woman mouthed to the Jeep’s driver as he began to pass the bus.
The incident highlights the dangers of passing school buses when children are boarding or exiting.
