Representative Jasmine Crockett (D., Texas) is under scrutiny for allegedly hiding ownership of stocks in at least 25 companies from her congressional financial disclosures, according to a complaint revealed by the Washington Free Beacon.
As a Texas state legislator, Crockett reported holding a substantial stock portfolio in 2021, including shares in 28 companies spanning pharmaceutical, fossil fuel, technology, automobile, and marijuana sectors. However, she omitted 25 of these stocks from her congressional disclosures for the same year.
Several of the undisclosed companies could benefit from legislation Crockett introduced in Congress, raising concerns about a conflict of interest.
The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT), a nonpartisan watchdog, filed a complaint with the Office of Congressional Conduct. FACT contends that Crockett’s incomplete disclosures may violate the Ethics in Government Act, which imposes penalties, including prison, for knowingly submitting false financial statements.
"When Members of Congress fail to accurately and fully disclose their financial interests, it undermines the integrity of our government and erodes the public’s trust,"
— Kendra Arnold, FACT Executive Director
Jasmine Crockett’s omission of significant stock holdings from congressional disclosures risks legal consequences and public trust under ethics laws.
